HOUSTON, July 19, 2023 – Authorities have filed charges against a 22-year-old man, Maleq DeShun Mackmore, in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred in the early morning of May 13 at 6300 Beverly Hill Street.

Mackmore is facing murder charges in the 228th State District Court. The victim has been identified as Zacchias A. Jackson, also 22.

According to the HPD Homicide Division, police responded to a shooting report at the mentioned address where they discovered a parked vehicle splattered with blood. The owner of the vehicle, who remained at the scene, informed the officers that the victim and the suspect had been involved in an escalating argument, which culminated in Mackmore shooting Jackson multiple times. Mackmore then reportedly fled the scene on foot.

Jackson was privately transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

After an initial investigation and taking witness statements, Maleq Mackmore was identified as a person of interest. Further investigations led to his charges being filed for his involvement in the shooting.

On July 5, authorities arrested Mackmore at Memphis International Airport in Memphis, Tennessee. He was returned to Harris County, and on July 14, Mackmore was processed into the Harris County Joint Processing Center.
