Kenneth Wayne Thomas, 55, has been arrested and charged with murder in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred at 9100 Martin Luther King Boulevard on July 10 around 10:10 p.m. The charge has been filed in the 263rd State District Court. Thomas is currently being held on a $100,000 bond.

The victim has been identified as 67-year-old Kenneth Battle. Officers responded to a person down call at the mentioned address and found Battle lying in a grassy median with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses reported seeing the suspect steal Battle’s vehicle and park it in a residential area near the shooting scene. However, there was no known suspect description at the time.

Further investigation led to the identification of Thomas as the suspect. He was taken into custody on July 20 and subsequently charged in connection with the shooting.

It has been revealed that prior to the alleged offense, Thomas had a criminal history. On March 13, 1997, in Cause Number 0743140, in the 338th District Court of Harris County, Texas, Thomas was convicted of the felony offense of Burglary of a Habitation. After this conviction became final, and before the commission of the primary offense, Thomas committed the felony offense of Theft and was finally convicted of that offense on November 30, 2005, in Cause Number 1039495, in the 183rd District Court of Harris County, Texas.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
