HOUSTON, September 5, 2023 – Charges have been filed against Adrian James Martinez, 24, in connection with the fatal crash that occurred at 9000 South Dairy Ashford Road around 12:05 a.m. on Saturday, September 2. Martinez is charged with failure to stop and render aid in the 262nd State District Court. The identity of the deceased male victim is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

According to the investigation, Martinez was driving a silver Honda Accord southbound at a high rate of speed when he struck the curb, changed lanes, and lost control. The vehicle subsequently collided with two trees in the median, splitting the car in two. One of the backseat passengers was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene by Houston Fire Department paramedics. A 20-year-old backseat passenger was transported to a nearby hospital in stable condition.

Martinez and the front passenger fled the scene on foot, seeking refuge in a nearby apartment complex. Family members at the apartment called the police. Upon arrival, officers located Martinez, who admitted to being the driver involved in the crash. Showing no signs of impairment, Martinez was arrested without incident and subsequently charged for his role in the fatal accident. The investigation is ongoing.
